![]() ![]() According to MyHeritage, the colorization model was trained by being exposed to millions of real photos, which led to it developing an 'understanding of our world and its colors'. Like the other tools, this features deploys clever machine learning to alter the image. This colorizer tool (opens in new tab) can also be used to restore colors on faded images, where they've not been properly preserved. In news we missed last month, genealogy website MyHeritage has launched its very own easy-to-use Photo Enhancer tool that uses deep learning technology to turn blurry or faded family photos. Members just need to navigate to the 'photos' tab, upload a black and white image, then watch as the AI magically turns it into a fully-colorized picture. This is another tool that MyHeritage has made incredibly simple to use. This might cause occasional issues, where glitches could occur (or faces are inaccurately sharpened so that they're unrecognizable.) Overall, though, it's an impressive – and very fast – tool that you can use for free. However, there aren't any options to tweak photos beyond the initial 'upscaling' that's done by the machine learning tool you don't have the same level of control as you would with the best photo editing software (opens in new tab). You can upload photos of individuals, or upload group pictures and the AI will pick out individual faces for you to animate.īefore and after using the MyHeritage enhancement technology. However, it's a fun way to revisit past images and maybe get kids interested in looking at pics of their ancestors. It's not always perfect, as sometimes images become distorted and blur at the edges. This allows you to upload an old image, then watch as it's brought to life, through a series of subtle movements (usually blinking, then turning slightly to one side and smiling.) Perhaps the best-known tool on the MyHeritage site is its ' Deep Nostalgia (opens in new tab)' AI feature. Once you've signed up, you can access these tools by visiting the site, clicking over to the 'photos' tab and uploading your images. ![]() We rate it as both one of the best genealogy sites (opens in new tab) out there, and one of the best family tree makers (opens in new tab), too. This adds up to a total of 7% of Imagenet data trained once (3 hours of direct GAN training). You'll need to sign-up for a free account if you want to use the tools, but it's well worth doing this if you're interested in genealogy. This model was trained with 3 critic pretrain/GAN cycle repeats via NoGAN, in addition to the initial generator/critic pretrain/GAN NoGAN training, at 192px. ![]() This model uses a resnet101 backbone on a UNet with an emphasis on width of layers on the decoder side. It generally has less weird miscolorations than artistic, but it's also less colorful in general. Notably, it produces less "zombies"- where faces or limbs stay gray rather than being colored in properly. Stable: This model achieves the best results with landscapes and portraits. This adds up to a total of 32% of Imagenet data trained once (12.5 hours of direct GAN training). This model was trained with 5 critic pretrain/GAN cycle repeats via NoGAN, in addition to the initial generator/critic pretrain/GAN NoGAN training, at 192px. The model uses a resnet34 backbone on a UNet with an emphasis on depth of layers on the decoder side. Additionally, the model does not do as well as stable in a few key common scenarios- nature scenes and portraits. MyHeritage In Color can restore the colors in faded family photos and revive your favorite childhood memories. The most notable drawback however is that it's a bit of a pain to fiddle around with to get the best results (you have to adjust the rendering resolution or render_factor to achieve this). Something to keep in mind- historical accuracy remains a huge challenge! About the demoĪrtistic: This model achieves the highest quality results in image coloration, in terms of interesting details and vibrance. We'll get into the details in a bit, but first let's see some ![]() Simply put, the mission of this project is to colorize and restore old images andįilm footage. Try a few images for free!
